(CNN) -- Switzerland's Fabienne Suter won Friday's women's World Cup downhill in Bansko, Bulgaria, as American Lindsey Vonn increased her overall advantage after finishing tied for third place.
Suter won her first-ever downhill in Bulgaria's debut on the World Cup circuit.
Suter completed the race, Bulgaria's debut World Cup contest, in a time of one minute, 45.68 seconds from Austrian Andrea Fischbacher -- with Vonn and Italy's Nadia Fanchini finishing third -- 1.24 seconds back.
It was Suter's first-ever downhill victory in a career that has been dogged by a host of injuries in recent years.
Vonn's performance meant she extended her advantage over Germany's Maria Riesch in the overall standings to 346 points.
The 24-year-old also leads the downhill standings by 118 points from Riesch -- who finished 18th -- while third-placed Anja Paerson of Sweden did not finish on Friday.
Saturday will see another scheduled downhill, with a super-G to be run on Sunday.
