The rivalry between the two cricket powers of Australia and England dates back to the first Test played between the two nations in 1877.

The clash is dubbed "The Ashes" after Australia's victory in 1882 prompted an obituary for English cricket to appear in the British press.

England suffered a period of Ashes' wilderness from 1987 onwards until victory in 2005 ended in glory with a 2-1 home series win.
Australia hit back, however, with a 5-0 thrashing on also on homesoil in 2007 which recaptured the urn.
