(CNN) -- Ai Miyazato of Japan carded a second round 66 to share the halfway lead at the Evian Masters in France with Becky Brewerton of Wales and South Korea's Choi Na Yeon.
Choi is in a three-way tie for the lead with Brewerton and Miyazato.
The 24-year-old Miyazato is still chasing her first win on the LPGA Tour but has given herself every chance of breaking her duck.
"Today my putting was really good. I holed from about 20 feet at the third for my first birdie and that got me going," she said.
Brewerton and Choi, who lost a three-way playoff to Swede Helen Alfredsson in Evian last year, both shot 68s to join Miyazato on 135 - nine-under-par.
The trio lead by one shot from South Korea's Kim In Kyung (69).
France's Karine Icher delighted the home galleries at the prestigious tournament with a 69 to be in a five-strong group tied for fifth place on seven-under-par.
American star Paula Creamer is also on seven-under with Sweden's Sophie Gustafson also challenging on that mark after a brilliant six-under 66.
World number one Lorena Ochoa recovered from a disappointing 75 in the first round to hit back with a 69 to stand level par after two rounds, but nine off the pace.
American teenager Michelle Wie, twice a runner-up at Evian, also improved her position with five birdies in a 71 for one- under par overall.
L:PGA money list leader Jiyai Shin of South Korea is on two-under after a second round 70.
Defending champion Alfredsson remained firmly in contention for a repeat with a 69 to stand four shots back ahead of the weekend at the $3.25 million joint-sanctioned LPGA and Ladies European Tour event.
But last year's European number one Gwladys Nocera, who lives on the other side of Lake Geneva in Lausanne, missed the cut after a 76.
