(CNN) -- Sweden's Michael Jonzon boosted his chances of retaining his European Tour card after a third round five-under 66 saw him lead the Castello Masters in Spain on Saturday.

Jonzon, a lowly 158th in the Race to Dubai, needs a top two finish to make sure he keeps his card and will be under stong pressure on the final day from home hope Sergia Garcia and Martin Kaymer who are a shot behind.

German Kaymer can return to the top of the Race to Dubai standings by winning his first event since returning to action after a go-karting accident while Garcia is the defending champion.

England's Sam Hutsby, playing only his third European Tour event as a professional, is a shot further back after a brilliant 66, spoilt by a bogey on the last to leave him on 14-under.

Garcia played solidly for a bogey-free 67, saving par from 18 feet on the last after driving into sand, while Kaymer recovered from a double bogey at the short second to card a 68.

Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie stormed through the field with an eight-under 64 after finishing his second round with a pair of double bogeys.

It was the Scot's lowest round since winning the 2007 European Open and a welcome return after an admittedly poor season.

"I've gone back to a short putter and am putting much better," he told www.european tour.com.

"But this year has a complete and utter ... one to write off.

"I need to go and get my game sorted out - my irons are not accurate enough."

He is tied for 12th, one shot behind former U.S.Masters champion Jose-Maria Olazabal, who is still in the hunt after a two-under 70.
