(CNN) -- The return of Tiger Woods to Australia has captured the imagination of golf fans throughout the country.

Returning for the Australian Masters, world number-one Woods last played Down Under in 1998 when he was on the American team that lost in the Presidents Cup to their international opposition.

His return in Melbourne drew thousands of people just to watch him practice with the session creating a media frenzy that resulted in television helicopters circling overhead eager to capture the American.
