It's unlikely there will be many surprises when FIFA comes to naming its World Player of the Year. At the start of the season a betting man could have safely wagered that the likes of Lionel Messi, Kaka and Andres Iniesta would be in the running, and none of them have disappointed this season.
But what about the players no one would have backed -- the young guns who have suddenly appeared on the radar and the has-beens who have proved they've still got what it takes?
This list of the season's over-achievers is by no means definitive, but each of these 10 players has defied predictions, performing above and beyond anyone's expectations.
