(CNN) -- Espanyol have confirmed they have reached an agreement for Japanese international midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura to join the Primera Liga club on a two-year contract.

Nakamura became a Celtic legend during his successful four years with the Scottish club.
Nakamura is pencilled in to arrive in Barcelona on July 10, when he will take his medical.
If all goes well, he will be officially presented just a few days before the squad return for pre-season training. Latest transfer rumors and gossip
Nakamura, who turns 31 this week, had initially looked set to return to his former club Yokohama Marinos after his contract with Scottish Premier League side Celtic expired.
However, Marinos officials were informed on Monday by Nakamura's agent that the player had decided against returning to the J.League and had chosen to move to Espanyol instead.
Nakamura, who became a cult hero with Celtic fans after helping the club win three successive Scottish Premier League titles, is the second new signing Espanyol have secured in as many days, having snapped up teenage Israeli striker Ben Sahar from Chelsea on a four-year contract.
