(CNN) -- German Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Nigerian international striker Obafemi Martins from Newcastle United on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Martins will be looking to dislodge Grafite and Edin Dzeko in the Wolfsburg forward line this season.
Martins, who becomes the latest big-name striker to leave relegated Premier League side Newcastle following the departures of Michael Owen and Mark Viduka, is in line to make his debut against Stuttgart in the opening Bundesliga match of the season on Friday.
"He is just the type of player that we were looking for to complement Grafite and Edin Dzeko," Wolves' coach Armin Veh told reporters. "He is not only quick, but he has also proven how dangerous he is in front of goal."
"I am delighted the transfer has gone through," said Martins. "The Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world and I am happy to be able to play for the defending Bundesliga champions. This is going to be a great challenge."
One of his main challenges is going to be to force his way into the Wolfsburg attack. Dzeko and Grafite scored a league record 54 goals between them last season, but as Veh explained, Martins will not necessarily be taking one of their places in his team.
"Since he can also be used out wide, we now have more possibilities to play with two or three strikers," Veh added. "For his young age, he has already gained lots of experience in Italy and England and he also knows the Champions League."
Martins could make his debut next Friday night when Wolfsburg host Stuttgart at the VW-Arena in the opening fixture of the new Bundesliga season.
