(CNN) -- Liverpool will be without star striker Fernando Torres for the crucial Champions League visit of Olympique Lyon to Anfield on Tuesday.
A dejected Torres faces up to Liverpool's defeat to Fiorentina in Florence.
Liverpool are under pressure after losing their last Group E match against Fiorentina and know they cannot afford to slip up against the French giants.
Manager Rafael Benitez has been boosted by the return to fitness of midfield talisman Steven Gerrard, who missed the 1-0 defeat to Sunderland on Saturday, but Torres has not recovered from the knock he picked up on international duty with Spain.
Benitez told www.liverpoolfc.tv: "Torres is still not ready. Hopefully he will be for the weekend, but not for this game."
The defeat at Sunderland, courtesy of the bizarre 'beach ball' goal, was Liverpool's fourth in the English Premier League this season and they face arch-rivals Manchester United this weekend.
But Benitez is refusing to look past the Lyon match in a crucial week which could shape his team's season.
"Every game is a massive game for us so we cannot think about the second one (against Manchester United)," Benitez said.
"We will just concentrate on the first one and we want to win tomorrow " he added.
Gerrard trained with the squad on Monday and Benitez is confident he can line up.
"We have had some problems with injuries so to have Gerrard fit will be a big bonus for us," he said.
Meanwhile, Arsenal must do without recently returned Theo Walcott for their trip to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday in Group H.
Walcott sustained knee ligament damage after a thumping challenge from Birmingham's Liam Ridgewell in their 3-1 home win at the Emirates.
The north London club say he could be ruled out for up to a month.
Italian champions Inter Milan have injury doubts over strikers Samuel Eto'o and Diego Milito going into a vital home match against Dynamo Kiev in the San Siro on Tuesday.
Inter are third in the group, which includes European champions Barcelona, after two opening draws.
Midifelder Esteban Cambiasso and Thiago Motta are definitely out.
Inter's local rivals AC Milan will be without midfielder Gennaro Gattuso and goalkeeper Marco Storari for their high-profile trip to Real Madrid on Wednesday in Group C.
Gattuso has a knee problem and Storari has a left thigh muscle injury.
