(CNN) -- Ryder Cup hero Kenny Perry seized the lead after the third round of the FBR Open in Arizona with a five-under-par 66.
Perry produced some superb iron play on the way to a five-under 66.
Veteran Perry won three PGA Tour titles last season before playing a key role in the United States win over Europe at Valhalla and shows no sign at 48 of losing his touch.
A final hole birdie took him one shot clear of Scott Piercy on 12-under 201 on the TPC of Scottsdale.
Journeyman Piercy also carded a 66 as he chases his first PGA Tour title after two wins last year on the second-tier tour.
Kevin Na and Brian Gay were tied for third at 10-under 203 with in-form Australian Geoff Ogilvy not out of it in a tie for sixth at nine under after a 65.
Tournament star attraction Phil Mickelson comfortably missed the cut in the $6 million tournament as did two-time defending champion JB Holmes.
