Kelly is seeking his first PGA Tour victory in seven years and holds a slender advantage over fellow Americans Troy Matteson and Charley Hoffman after totaling 10-under 134.

First round leader Charlie Wi of South Korea shot a two-under 70 to be tied for third with five others.

Matteson equaled the course record with his eight-under 64 on the TPC Louisiana course with Hoffman carding a 66.

Kelly's two victories on the PGA Tour both came in 2002 at the Western Open and Sony Open in Hawaii.

"My game hasn't been there for a while," Kelly told the official Tour Web site www.pgatour.com.

"I chipped well, putted well, drove the ball pretty good, and my iron shots were pretty good.

"So things are coming together, it's gelling."

European Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter and Rory Sabbatini of South Africa are in a chasing group three shots behind, with Masters runner-up Kenny Perry on five-under.

But former champion Andres Romero of Argentina was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard.
