KIBERA, Kenya (CNN) -- CNN producer Linda Roth is traveling in Kenya with a dozen U.S. journalists seeing how life is lived and what problems Kenyans face now, and what hopes there are for the future.

Here she visits the Kibera slum in Nairobi and meets some of its residents and some of those trying to make life better.

The trip was set up through the Gatekeeper Editor's program with the International Reporting Project at the Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C.
