BOGOTA, Colombia (CNN) -- Four Colombian soldiers are dead and six are missing after a firefight with Marxist guerrillas, Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos said Tuesday.
Earlier media reports had said at least 22 soldiers were missing or killed, but Santos said during a televised news conference that he did not know where that information originated.
The battle against the FARC guerrillas occurred in Colombia's Guaviare province Monday night, Santos said.
FARC, which is the Spanish acronym for Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, has been waging war on the government since the 1960s.
