CARACAS, Venezuela (CNN) -- Recovery officials removed the bodies Monday of a Venezuelan army general and 16 other who people died in a helicopter crash near the border with Colombia, a news agency reported.
In addition to Brig. Gen. Domingo Alberto Feneite Medina, 15 soldiers and a civilian died in Sunday's crash in western Venezuela, the state-run Agencia Bolivariana de Noticias said.
Rescue efforts Sunday night were hampered by clouds and heavy rain, the news agency said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, officials said.
