NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- A train crashed into a bus packed with wedding guests at an unguarded railroad crossing in northern India, killing 11, officials said Sunday.

The crash occurred in the Budaun district of the Uttar Pradesh state late Saturday, district magistrate Navdeep Rinwa told CNN.

The bus driver tried to pass a vehicle over an unmanned rail crossing, ignoring the arriving train, according to Rinwa.

An eight-year-old girl was among the victims, he added.

Eighteen other people were wounded in the collision, including four seriously.
