KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A roadside bomb in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday killed three Afghan army commandos, the U.S. military said.
The blast struck their vehicle in the Gardez district of Paktia province during a combat reconnaissance patrol.
Four other commandos were wounded. Authorities detained six people in connection with the attack.
The U.S. military on Saturday also reported the killings of five armed militants in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan.
Afghan troops, assisted by coalition forces, had been conducting a patrol when they were attacked, the U.S. military said. They traded fire with the militants and called in air support.
