ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Seven people are dead after a suicide attacker blew himself up at a security check post Saturday evening, a police spokesman said.
The bomber was the eighth death; seven other people were wounded, authorities said.
The bomber approached the post on foot about 7:45 p.m. (10:45 a.m.), Islamabad police spokesman Bin Yamin said.
Initial reports that the explosion occurred at a nearby market were wrong, Yamin said. The post is used to check vehicles.
