A Thai political leader who helped topple that country's former prime minister was shot early Friday on the way to host his radio talk show, according to a spokesman for his political party.

The shooting of Sondhi Limthongkul was the latest chapter in weeks of widespread political unrest in the country, pitting loyalists to Thailand's deposed former prime minister and supporters of the nation's current leader.

Sondhi on Friday morning underwent a three-hour operation to remove a bullet from his head. He was conscious and able to communicate, and his injuries were not life-threatening, said Dr. Chaiwan Charoenchokthaveen. Read full article »
