NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- Between four and 10 security officers on a routine patrol were feared dead after a land mine blew up their cars in central India Monday, police said.
The explosion occurred in the Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh state, said Vijay Katre, a deputy superintendent of police. Maoists were suspected in the attack.
It was not immediately clear what force -- police or paramilitary -- the officers belonged to.
