Preliminary results from Indonesia's national elections show President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono with a better than two-to-one edge over his nearest challenger, the National Electoral Commission said Thursday.

With 18.7 million ballots counted, the incumbent held about 61.7 percent of the vote, compared with 28.6 percent for former President Megawati Sukarnoputri and 9.8 percent for Yudhoyono's vice president, Yusuf Kalla.

Official results will come out by the end of July, or early next month, according to the commission. Indonesia has 175 million registered voters spread over 17,000 islands. Read full article »
