Earthquake strikes Taiwan region

TAIPEI, Taiwan (CNN) -- A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Taiwan region early Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter was 60 kilometers (40 miles) from Hualien, Taiwan, and 135 km (85 miles) south-southeast of the capital, Taipei.

It had a depth of 24.7 km (15.3 miles), the Geological Survey said.

The quake occurred just after 2 a.m. local time.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
