NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- An air force plane crashed in southern India on Friday, killing both pilots, authorities said.

The trainer aircraft came down apparently because of an engine problem, air force spokesman T.K. Singha told CNN. The crash occurred near an air force academy in Andhra Pradesh state, he said, adding that an investigation will be conducted.
