ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Six people were killed and 10 wounded in a car bomb blast in Pakistan's troubled northwest Monday, officials said.

The attack took place at a gas station about 14 miles (23 km) northeast of Peshawar, the capital of the North West Frontier Province.

The blast killed three children, two women and a man who were in the vehicle at the time, said police Officer Muhammad Riaz Khan.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Pakistani forces have been battling Taliban militants in the area for months.

CNN's Cal Perry, and journalists Janullah Hashimzada and Nasir Habib contributed to this report.
