BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A bomb attached to a vehicle exploded in western Baghdad Saturday, killing the car's driver and a bystander, an Interior Ministry official said.

The car belonged to the head of al-Masour district council, who was not in the car at the time, the official said.

This attack comes a day after a political candidate was gunned down in a town south of Baghdad and a U.S. soldier died in a roadside bombing in Baghdad.

CNN's Jomana Karadsheh contributed to this report.
