(CNN) -- A British mother-of-two looks set to serve a three-month jail sentence for adultery after losing her appeal against the conviction in Dubai.

But an appeal court halved the six-month term initially imposed last November, the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed.

She was also fined 3,000 dirhams ($817) and faces deportation. It was unclear whether she had been taken into custody following the case Thursday.

Marnie Pearce, 40, was found guilty of cheating on her Egyptian husband last year following her arrest in March. She was accused of committing adultery with a British man. She claimed the man was a friend and told the UK's Daily Telegraph that she had already separated from her husband.

The couple, who married in 1999, had two sons, aged seven and four. Pearce had remained in the Middle Eastern state on bail while awaiting her appeal.

In comments to the British media last year, she has expressed concern that she could lose custody of her children.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office told CNN that the FCO was providing consular assistance and said the British Embassy in Dubai was in regular contact with Pearce.
