BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A U.S. soldier has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death last month of a contractor in Taji, Iraq, the military said in a statement Sunday.
Pfc. Carl T. Stovall III was apprehended March 26, the day of the contractor's death, and is being held as a person of interest, Multi-National Division -- Baghdad said in a statement.
Stovall was charged Saturday, the military said, under Article 118 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Stovall is assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, the military statement said.
No details of the death were given. An investigation is ongoing, the military said.
The military did not release the contractor's name or nationality but said the contractor was a third country national -- neither Iraqi nor American. U.S. military contractors hire thousands of third country nationals in Iraq.
