BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A mortar round crashed through a home in eastern Baghdad Saturday morning, killing a 16-month-old child and wounding three other civilians, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said.
The target of the attack in the Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City, about a kilometer away from a U.S. military base, was unclear.
Authorities reported other incidents of violence.
At least four police officers were killed in two separate roadside bombings in Baghdad on Saturday, an official said.
Two were killed in each bombing. Five officers and five civilians were injured in the two bombings, which took place about 90 minutes apart in different neighborhoods.
Also on Saturday, the U.S. military said a Multi-National Division-South soldier was killed in action in southern Iraq.
Over the weekend in northern Iraq, U.S. and Iraqi troops targeted a Syrian-based al Qaeda in Iraq network and a "foreign terrorist faciliator" named Abu Khalaf more than 50 miles northwest of Mosul, the U.S. military said.
Abu Khalaf, the military said, "is believed to be responsible for facilitating the main pipeline of suicide bombers, as well as the flow of money, weapons, terrorists and other resources from Syria into Iraq." Three of his associates were arrested, including one person wanted for involvement in car bombings.
