BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A double bombing Monday morning in eastern Baghdad killed at least two people and injured six others, an Interior Ministry official said.
Two bombs attached to two vehicles -- a car and a minibus -- detonated in quick succession near a crowded market in the predominantly Shiite district of al-Shaab, according to the official.
The casualty toll was expected to rise.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki warned of increased political violence in the country, mentioning a deadly bombing last Wednesday in the southern town of Bathaa that killed more than 30 people and injured dozens.
He said there will be attempts to undermine Iraqi security forces as U.S. troops complete their withdrawal from Iraqi cities by the end of the month and ahead of upcoming national elections.
