BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Four bombing attacks in Iraq killed at least 26 people and wounded more than 80 others, officials said Thursday.

The deadliest attack happened before dawn in the Kurdish village of Wardek, south of Mosul, in northern Iraq.

At least 20 civilians were killed and 30 wounded in a suicide truck bombing, an Interior Ministry official said.

Many houses in the village were destroyed in the bombing, the latest in a series of similarly devastating attacks that have struck small villages in Nineveh province over recent months.

Ethnic tensions between Arabs and Kurds have been high in and around Mosul.

Last month, the U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. Ray Odierno, told reporters that al Qaeda in Iraq was exploiting such divisions in the area and carrying out attacks in villages.

In another attack Thursday, at least four civilians were killed and 29 wounded in a double bombing in a marketplace in Mahmoudiya, south of Baghdad, where two roadside bombs detonated in quick succession, the official said.

In central Baghdad's Karrada district, at least five civilians were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded on a busy street.
