BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A U.S. drone crashed in northern Iraq Saturday morning, damaging the Mosul branch of the powerful Iraqi Islamic Party -- the nation's largest Sunni political party, a U.S. military spokesman confirmed.

The drone hit at about 7 a.m. (midnight Friday ET) in the Al Ghizlani neighborhood of Mosul, which, according to the military, is the last urban stronghold of al Qaeda in Iraq.

"It is only by coincidence that the [drone] impacted the Mosul Islamic Party headquarters causing damage to the roof," Maj. Derrick Cheng said.

No injuries were reported from the crash, which is under investigation, Cheng said.

He said U.S. forces recovered the drone and are speaking with local officials to help with repairs to the building.

Drones are frequently deployed in the region, primarily in counter-insurgency missions, he said.

CNN's Mohammed Jamjoom contributed to this report.
