(CNN) -- Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has ruled himself out of taking charge of the Portugal national team on a temporary basis for their next two Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Speculation was rife last week that the "Special One" would step in for matches against Denmark and Portugal in October and he told reporters that "if I was a free agent, I would go tomorrow."

But on Monday, Mourinho back tracked and ruled out the idea at his latest press conference.

"Being Portuguese I am always available to talk about the team, (but) as a coach the issue is closed and I don't want to talk about it any more," AFP reported.
