Speed and style: The beauty of F1 design

By Tom McGowan, CNN

Formula One racing cars have long been associated with the highest standards of mechanical engineering, efficiency and precision.

But while their aerodynamic designs are measured on the track by their functional outcomes, their style and sweeping curves can also prove aesthetically pleasing to motorsport enthusiasts all over the world.

In the book '"The Art of the F1 Racing Car," automotive photographer James Mann celebrates the splendor of these magnificent machines.

In a chance to see Formula One cars when they are not moving at high speed, the book aims to display the vehicles as works of art.

The collection of images covers nearly 60 years of motoring and, although the top speeds of the cars may have changed over time, it is clear to see that the beauty of their designs remains as captivating as ever.
