(CNN) -- Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo underwent minor surgery Wednesday to remove a swollen lymph node from his groin, the head of state announced on his web page.
The node will be submitted for pathological analysis, the president's notice said.
The surgery was performed at the Sanatorio Italiano medical facility, where Lugo was expected to remain for three or four hours, said his doctor, Cayo Estigarribia. Lugo will rest at the presidential residence until possibly Thursday, the doctor said.
Lugo, a former Roman Catholic bishop who was involved in several paternity controversies last year, underwent endoscopic prostate surgery in January.
