Mexico City, Mexico (CNN) -- Mexican Supreme Court of Justice minister Jesus Gudino Pelayo died from a heart attack Sunday while on vacation in England, the state-run Notimex news agency reported.
Gudino, 67, voted in August in favor of same-sex marriage in Mexico's federal district, home to the capital, Mexico City. Seven other Supreme Court ministers also ruled in favor of the measure, which was deemed constitutional.
Similarly, Gudino also voted in favor of allowing same-sex couples to adopt children, saying it would be discriminatory not to allow the adoptions.
The jurist was on vacation in London with his wife when he was felled in his hotel room Sunday at 3 p.m. local time (10 a.m. ET), Notimex said.
He had been on the Supreme Court since February 1995. His term was due to end November 30, 2015.
Gudino received his law degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in the Federal District in January 1972.
