6.5-magnitude quake strikes off Taiwan

(CNN) -- A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck southeast of Taiwan on Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake, which USGS originally reported as having a 6.9 magnitude, was centered 269 km (167 miles) east of T'ai-tung county, USGS said.

No information on damage was immediately available.
