Beijing, China (CNN) -- Floods caused by pounding rainstorms in south China have killed 146 people and left 40 others missing, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported Friday.
The Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Ministry of Finance have come up with disaster relief funds of 370 million yuan (or nearly $55 million), Xinhua reported.
The funds will go to five Chinese provinces and one municipality for evacuation, resettlement and housing construction, it said.
More than 38.2 million people in 10 Chinese provinces and one municipality have been affected by the flooding since July 1, the news agency reported, citing the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
More than 1.3 million people have been uprooted and around 124,000 houses have been destroyed, it said.
Economic losses are estimated at 29.5 billion yuan (more than $4 billion).
