Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- The Pakistani military says hundreds of militants have been killed since March in an ongoing operation in Orakzai Agency in the northwestern part of the country.
Brig. Pervez Ahmed, the operational commander for Pakistani military in Orakzai Agency, told reporters Tuesday that more than 600 militants have been killed and 250 have been arrested in the past six months.
Ahmed said 60 Pakistani soldiers have also been killed in the operation, which has involved ground troops, artillery and fighter jets in an effort to root out militants.
Orakzai Agency is one of seven districts in Pakistan's tribal region.
Taliban-claimed attacks targeting police agencies in neighboring provinces have left 110 people dead and 342 injured since Friday.
