Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- More than 30 insurgents died in an air assault staged by Afghan and coalition forces in eastern Afghanistan, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said Saturday.

The deaths occurred Friday in the Alisheng district of Laghman province, and came when more than 250 Afghan soldiers and police and coalition service members worked to clear insurgent activity. The operation continued into Saturday.

ISAF on Saturday reported the deaths of three of its service members, two who died Friday in a bombing in the east and one who died on Saturday in a blast in the south. The precise locations and the nationalities of the troops were not released by ISAF.

In Paktika province in the southeast, coalition forces conducted a precision air strike on Friday that killed a Taliban commander linked to attacks last week during the election period. The commander, identified as Halel, "helped conduct indirect fire and improvised explosive device attacks."
