Blasts kill 42 in Iraqi marketplace

Baghdad, Iraq (CNN) -- The death toll has risen to 42, one day after two bombs exploded at a marketplace north of Baghdad, police officials said Saturday.

A pair of improvised explosive devices -- a car bomb and a roadside bomb -- went off Friday in the outdoor marketplace next to a busy restaurant and a coffee shop in Khalis, said police officials in Baquba, the capital of Diyala province.

Women and children were among those killed. At least 68 people were wounded in the blasts, and at least six shops were damaged, they said.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Friday. Khalis is about 75 kilometers (45 miles) north of Baghdad.
