Jerusalem (CNN) -- At least two people were killed after Israel targeted three tunnels in Gaza in airstrikes late Saturday night and early Sunday, Hamas officials said.
Israeli forces said they attacked "terror and smuggling" tunnels in Gaza to respond to security-related incidents that happened during the week.
"The terror tunnel was intended for infiltrating into Israel and executing terror attacks against IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians," the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.
Hamas officials said one person was missing after the attack.
An Israeli Defense Forces spokesman, who would not give his name, said the attacks came after a rocket from Gaza landed in Israel.
The rocket from Gaza landed in the Israeli town of Sderot early Saturday morning, the IDF spokesman said. There were no reports of injuries or damage, he added.
