(CNN) -- Captain Carlos Tevez helped Manchester City into the fourth round of the English FA Cup with another spectacular goal in Tuesday's 4-2 home win over second division Leicester.

The Argentina forward followed up his weekend double from the 4-3 win against Wolverhampton -- which briefly put City on top of the Premier League -- with a scorching opener in the 15th minute.

In the second half, with City 3-1 ahead, Tevez had the chance to seal the tie in the 58th minute after being fouled by young defender Jack Hobbs when clear on goal, but drove his penalty the down the middle into the legs of keeper Chris Weale.

Leicester, managed by former City and England boss Sven Goran Eriksson, then set up a tense finish as Lloyd Dyer raced free to reduce the deficit with seven minutes to play.

Is the English Premier League in crisis?

However, Serbian fullback Aleksandar Kolarov made it safe for City with a low left-foot drive in the final minute of regulation time.

Tevez scored in the 2-2 draw at Leicester on January 9, and his opener -- which came after he burst into the box and then received a lucky bounce of the ball off a defender -- seemed set to open the floodgates.

But Leicester hit back immediately with a Paul Gallagher penalty after winger Dyer tripped over Patrick Vieira's trailing leg.

But veteran French midfielder Vieira, making a rare start this season, made amends in the 36th minute when he stabbed home from close range after David Silva's shot was cleared off the line.

Young England winger Adam Johnson doubled the lead soon after as he beat the offside trap to collect Silva's clever pass and slot home as City went on to set up trip to third division Notts County on January 29.

In Tuesday's other third-round replays, Wolves thrashed division two Doncaster 5-0 to set up a clash with Premier League rivals Stoke.

Wolves, held 2-2 in Yorkshire, led 1-0 at halftime through Steven Fletcher's fifth-minute strike, then on-loan Belgian midfielder Geoffrey Mujangi Bia, striker Kevin Doyle, young winger Matt Jarvis and David Jones scored in the final half-hour.

Stoke were taken to extra-time by divison two Cardiff, finally winning 2-0 after being held goalless by the Welsh side in regular play.

Striker Jon Walters netted both goals, the first coming two minutes after the restart with a header from Michael Tonge's corner.

Walters sealed victory with six minutes to play as he fired in from a tight angle after his first attempt was blocked.

Premier League high-flyers Arsenal travel to second division Leeds in Wednesday's only replay, having drawn 1-1 in London.
