(CNN) -- Kesuke Honda lifts the 2011 AFC Asian Cup for Japan after beating Australia 1-0 in Saturday's final.

The Asian Cup is one of the biggest football tournaments in the world, representing diverse countries from a continent that stretches from Syria's Mediterranean coast all the way to Japan's Pacific coast line.

Japan's victory means that the Blue Samurai has now won four continental titles, a record.

This was Australia's second Asian Cup after the Socceroos left the Oceania Confederation and joined the Asian Football Confederation in 2006

The tournament has been taking place in Doha, Qatar, just two months after the Middle Eastern country was controversially awarded the 2022 World Cup finals.
