(CNN) -- AC Milan need only one more point to clinch an 18th Italian league title after a 1-0 win over Bologna Sunday.
The Rossoneri will be Serie A champions if either Milan avoid defeat away to Roma next week or Inter Milan fail to beat Fiorentina, but have two further games to get over the line if required.
French international midfielder Mathieu Flamini scored the only goal of the game early in the first half after being put through by Robinho.
Nearest challengers Inter kept the title race alive Saturday as two injury time goals from Giampaolo Pazzini's gave the reigning champions a 2-1 win at Cesena.
Coach Massimiliano Allegri said their win over Bologna had left the title race a formality.
"We'll get one point from three games, we hope to do it as soon as possible but we're in good shape," he told AFP.
Flamini might have added to Milan's tally after the break as he was again set up by Robinho but wasted the opportunity.
In the battle for fourth place, Udinese gave Lazio a big advantage as they were thrashed 5-2 at Fiorentina, with both Gaetano D'Agostino and Alessio Cerci scoring twice.
If Lazio win at home on Monday they will be four points clear of their rivals with just three games to play.
In Sunday's late kickoff, Roma captain Francesco Totti scored twice in their 3-2 win at already relegated Bari.
His 205th and 206th strikes took him past fellow legend Roberto Baggio in the Serie A all-time scoring list into fifth place.
"The King of Rome is not dead and he will never die," he told Sky Sport.
"I know what I can give. I'm happy that I've set another record and taken another scalp, a great player like Baggio. I hope to keep going at this level."
In Spain's La Liga, Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi scored the 74th minute winner as Villarreal came from behind to beat Getafe 2-1 at El Madrigal Sunday.
The win moves them to within three points of third-placed Valencia, who fell to a 1-0 defeat to Osasuna, their second straight loss.
Alvaro Cejudo's winner on the hour mark saw Osasuna move out of the bottom three.
