(CNN) -- Two Marines were rescued by the Coast Guard after their jet crashed into the Pacific Ocean Wednesday night, officials said.
The F/A-18 Hornet jet crashed about 85 miles southwest of San Diego, the Coast Guard said in a statement Thursday.
Both Marines were hospitalized in stable condition.
According to the Coast Guard, after being notified of the crash, they sent a cutter to the area and then flew an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to the Marines' location. The pair were hoisted into the helicopter and flown directly to the hospital, the statement said.
The jet was reported missing after it lost communication, the Coast Guard said. Weather conditions were clear.
