Rio De Janeiro, Brazil (CNN) -- A tourist bus collided with a truck carrying a heavy load of wood in southern Brazil Saturday, killing 26 people and injuring 21 others, Santa Catarina state officials said.
The bus was heading north on a highway near the village of Sao Miguel do Oeste, said Maj. Aldo Jofe Franca, a local fire department official. Its destination was a village in Parana state, where the passengers were going to participate in a bocce tournament.
The highway had just gone through repairs. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the accident.
