(CNN) -- A throat infection sidelined Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for a few days, but on Tuesday he said he is ready to begin what will be his fourth cycle of chemotherapy.

Chavez announced in June that he had cancer, but didn't disclose what type. He underwent surgery in Cuba, and had chemotherapy treatments in Cuba and Venezuela.

"We're heading probably toward a fourth cycle of chemotherapy in the next few days," Chavez said in an interview with state-run broadcaster VTV.

Chavez said that in October, he will undergo a series of evaluations of all his vital organs to verify that the cancer is beaten, "so that I can go into a stage of full recuperation."

Chavez canceled some events on Sunday because of his throat, he said, adding that by Tuesday he was feeling much better.
