(CNN) -- A police officer trying to defuse a roadside bomb in Kabul was killed in the ensuing blast Tuesday, officials said.

The blast wounded three other people: a policeman and two civilians, the interior ministry said.

The morning explosion took place on a small side street not normally used by international or Afghan security forces, Kabul's deputy police chief said.
