At least 3 officers, 2 insurgents killed in Afghanistan violence

(CNN) -- At least five people were killed from clashes in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar on Wednesday, the Kandahar provincial government said.

The dead include three police officers and two insurgents, according the Kandahar governor's media department. A senior police official is among the officers killed.

The governor's office said clashes broke out in Kandahar city's first district when Afghan national police were searching for insurgents and violence erupted between the two sides.
