Moscow (CNN) -- A fire at a shopping center in southwestern Russia killed at least two people and injured five others Saturday, an emergency official said.
The fire occurred at a five-story shopping center in Ufa City, said Oleg Zugeyev, head of the Emergency Situations Ministry in the Volga region.
Out of the five injured, only one remained hospitalized, an emergency spokesman told Russia's official RIA Novosti news agency.
The cause of the fire, which covered an area of 1,200 square meters, is unknown, the news agency reported.
Local emergency officials said it was likely caused by construction work, though eyewitnesses told RIA Novosti that two cars exploded near the mall entrance.
CNN's Arkady Irshenko contributed to this report.
