No sign of foul play, but police are investigating
Richard Descoings, 54, found dead in hotel bed
He was was director of the Institute of Political Studies in Paris
Police are investigating the death of a French academic who was found in a midtown New York hotel room on Tuesday afternoon, according to a New York Police Department spokesperson.
There was no sign of foul play, according to police, but officials said they are investigating to rule it out.
Richard Descoings, who was director of the Institute of Political Studies in Paris and a member of France’s government advisory board, was found dead in the Michelangelo Hotel about 1 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Hotel security went to check on Descoings after he didn’t check out of the hotel. Security found the 54-year-old in bed and called police.
Ban Ki-moon, the secretary general of the United Nations, addressed the university heads Monday and dined with them, said Martin Nesirky, a U.N. spokesman. He said he believed Descoings was at the event.
